Mumbai-Pune Expressway Traffic Management: AI Driven Cameras Keep a Strict Vigil, Steep Fines for Traffic Violations
AI-driven cameras enforce traffic rules, ensuring safety and compliance on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway
The Mumbai-Pune Expressway has implemented advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based cameras under the Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) to enhance road safety. Positioned at 52 strategic locations on both sides of the expressway, these state-of-the-art cameras aim to enforce traffic rules, reduce violations, and create a safer driving experience for all commuters.
AI Cameras: A Step Towards Smarter Traffic Enforcement
The AI-powered system utilizes radar technology to monitor vehicle speeds and driver behavior. Violations are detected in real-time, and e-challans are automatically issued for offenses, including:
- Speeding: Adherence to prescribed speed limits is mandatory:
- Ghat area:
- Light vehicles: 60 kmph
- Other vehicles: 40 kmph
- Other sections:
- Light vehicles: 100 kmph
- Other vehicles: 80 kmph
- Ghat area:
- Seatbelt compliance: Essential for all passengers.
- Mobile phone usage: Prohibited to prevent distractions while driving.
- Lane indiscipline: Drivers must follow proper lane-changing protocols.
Often for non compliance, Rs. 1000 fine is automatically imposed for every instance of traffic rules violations. Multiple challans have also been issued during the same journey if there are multiple traffic violations.
Authorities Stress Compliance
The Pimpri-Chinchwad RTO has emphasized the importance of following traffic rules, urging motorists to:
- Maintain speed limits.
- Always wear seat belts.
- Avoid using mobile phones while driving.
Significant Safety Impact Expected
The integration of AI cameras and ITMS technology is projected to significantly reduce accidents and improve overall traffic discipline on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. By encouraging compliance with these measures, authorities hope to create a safer and smoother journey for all travelers.
