Mumbai to Goa in 6 Hours by Road? Reports Suggest Highway Would be Ready Before This Monsoon!

Mumbai-Goa highway project is set to be completed by May-June 2025, reducing road travel time from Mumbai to Goa from current 12 hours to a mere 6 hours, reported TOI. The ambitious and highly anticipated project has faced numerous delays and cost overruns, finally costing the taxpayer a whopping Rs. 7300 crore.

The four-laning of the 466km Mumbia-Goa Highway in Maharashtra is expected to be completed by May-June 2025, before the onset of monsoon, cutting travel time by half. Work is pending on a few bypasses, underpasses and flyovers in towns like Mangaon, Indapur, Pali, Lanja, Kolad and Chiplun.The delays have escalated the project cost to Rs. 7300 crore from an earlier estimate of Rs. 3500 crore.

However, even after the completion of the highway a few bypasses, underpasses and flyovers in towns like Mangaon, Indapur, Lanja, Pali, Kolad and Chiplun will remain unfinished.

The 84km Panvel-Indapur stretch is being developed by NHAI. The remaining is being widened by the PWD under the Union ministry of road transport and highways.

NHAI will construct 30-km expressway connecting MTHL to Pune Highway. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is set to commence construction of a 30 km expressway linking Pagote, near JNPT (MTHL’s landing point toward Panvel), to Chauk Junction on the old Pune Highway. This new corridor will pass through the Uran-Chirner Highway (originating as Amra Marg from Navi Mumbai), Goa Highway, and Pune Expressway, featuring multiple entry and exit points along the route and boosting connectivity in the region.
