New OTP/PIN system to make cab booking easier and faster at Pune airport
There might be some relief in sight for passengers arriving at Pune airport. AeroMall authorities are coordinating with cab hailing apps such as Ola and Uber for implementing the new OTP/PIN based cab booking system.
In this new system, the arriving passengers can book a cab of their choice and they will immediately get an OTP/PIN. They don’t have to wait for the drivers to accept their booking. Once they get the OTP/PIN, they can sit in any cab of the same aggregator they made the booking with and share the OTP/PIN with the driver. The driver will be able to see the destination details on their app and start the ride.
In an effort to speed up the process, authorities confirmed on Wednesday that the aggregator company Ola had agreed to join in on a different OTP/PIN-based system that passengers waiting for taxis would use. The system is already being utilized by Uber.
“Uber has been using the system in several of its segments and now, Ola has also joined with its Ola Prime and Ola Prime Plus segments, which account for over 30% of bookings done from the airport,” YS Rajput, vice president of the AeroMall authority, said. We hope that as a result, there will be less chaos and crowding at the cab pick-up location.”
“We are still in talks with the aggregators to use the system for all segments at Pune airport,” he continued. After observing how customers and drivers accept the plan, we anticipate that they will begin in additional segments in the coming days.”
However the flyers are apprehensive. They are saying if the drivers don’t like the trip if it is too short or anything, they will find ways to overcharge or cancel the ride after exiting AeroMall.
Only time will tell if this system can be really helpful or not.
