New voters must register before August 16 for the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections
The district election officials of Pune district have reminded all new voters to ensure they register their names in the voter list for the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly election before August 16.
The final voter list is scheduled to be published on Aug 27. In the recent Lok Sabha polls, many voters in the district reported issues about missing names, hence election officials have urged voters to double-check their names and not wait until the last moment to fill up the forms.
Voters can easily register online or submit the form offline to booth level officers (BLO). We have also urged those whose names are deleted to fill up the Form 6 as new voters. Political party workers, too, are encouraged to ensure that voters’ names are checked. BLOs will double-check such complaints and ensure that each voter registers,” said Pune district deputy election officer Minal Kalaskar.
Steps to Register/Verify Name in Voter List:
- Visit the official website of Election Commission of India (ECI) at https://electoralsearch.eci.gov.in
- Navigate to the ‘Elector’ tab and search your name in the electoral roll.
- Enter your EPIC number or voter id to begin search.
- If EPIC number is not available, use other personal details such as phone number, date of birth and details of relatives.

Pune district has approximately 84 lakh registered voters on electoral rolls, and the election office has received an additional 4.36 lakh applications for new voter registrations, said officials. Around 64,000 applications have been sent for name deletion, while 2.08 lakh applications are for a change in address.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has directed states heading into assembly elections to re-examine the names of voters and ensure that none are missing, as part of the special summary voter registration drive. A month-long house-to-house verification drive to verify voters’ names on the electoral rolls, covering both urban and rural households, was also initiated earlier, and ended on Wednesday. “We have covered 85% of urban households in the door-to-door verification drive, while in rural areas, the coverage was around 96-97%,” an election official said.
Under the special revision programme of the voter list, registration of new voters, omission of deceased voters, updating details of migrant voters, elimination of errors in voter ID cards, correction of voter list by obtaining photographs as per the ECI standards, etc., are carried out.
The publication of the draft voter list is scheduled for Aug 2, wherein voters should ensure that the registered name, address, age, and other details are correct. If there is a need for correction, relevant details should be checked during this period and corrections made by Aug 16.
The district administration is trying to ensure that all eligible voters can exercise their right to vote for the Maharashtra Assembly election.
