Prasar Bharati, India’s national public broadcaster, has entered the OTT space with the launch of Waves, a new streaming platform aimed at offering a wide range of family-friendly content.
Launched at the 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa, Waves is positioned as the ultimate entertainment hub with a variety of content, from classic Doordarshan shows to fresh, exclusive programming.
Available for free download on both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, Waves offers users access to over 65 live TV channels, movies, interactive games, live events, and even online shopping features. The platform is accessible in 12 languages, including Hindi, English, Tamil, and Marathi, making it suitable for diverse audiences across India.
Waves not only aims to bring back memories of iconic Doordarshan shows like Ramayan, Mahabharat, and Shaktimaan but also offers modern adaptations such as Fauji 2.0, a reboot of the popular 1980s series that launched Shah Rukh Khan’s career. Other exclusive content includes Kicking Balls, a family drama produced by Oscar-winner Guneet Monga Kapoor, and animated series like Chhota Bheem and Tenali Rama.
The platform’s features cater to various needs, including Ultra HD streaming, offline downloads, and background play. In addition, users can enjoy access to religious programs, cricket tournaments, and live-streamed events like the Prabhu Shriram Lalla Aarti from Ayodhya. Subscription plans are available, with the Platinum Plan offering premium features such as multi-device streaming and offline access.
Waves is designed to provide clean, family-friendly entertainment to all sections of society, as emphasized by Prasar Bharati Chairman Navneet Kumar Sehgal. The platform offers content spanning over 10 genres, including infotainment, news, and cultural programming. With Waves, Prasar Bharati aims to meet India’s growing demand for digital streaming services while reconnecting people with their cultural roots.
As the country’s first OTT platform with “Indian DNA,” Waves promises to reshape the digital entertainment landscape by offering a rich viewing experience for everyone in the family.
