May 07, 2024: Lok Sabha Elections 2024 Phase 3 voting for 93 parliamentary constituencies or seats across the country concluded today with an overall voter turnout percentage of 61.45%.

As per data released by the Election Commission of India, Assam reported the highest voter turnout for polling done today at 75.26% and lowest voter turnout was reported from Uttar Pradesh at 57.34%.

Notably, the same 93 seats had polled 67.33% in 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Extreme heat conditions prevailing across the country is being widely attributed as one of the reasons for the drop in voter turnout.

In this phase, more than 1300 candidates, including around 120 women, are in the fray. A total of 17.24 crore voters are eligible to cast their franchise in this phase at 1.85 lakh polling stations.

Voter Turnout in Maharashtra

Across the 11 parliamentary constituencies where voting took place in Maharashtra, the highest voter turnout was recorded at Kolhapur at 63.71% and the lowest at Baramati Constituency at 47.84%.

Interestingly, a 103 year old grandmother Latika Bhagwan Thokle of Shankarnagar in Malshiras taluka cast her vote, family members brought her to the polling station in a rickshaw to cast her vote.

The Lok Sabha elections are being held across seven phases, from April 19 to June 1. The counting is scheduled for June 4.
