Ministerial portfolios for the PM Modi led union cabinet were announced a short while ago in a communication from the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

There has been no change in the big four ministries. As expected, the top four ministries were retained by Amit Shah (Home), Rajnath Singh (Defence), Nirmala Sitharaman (Finance) and S Jaishankar (External Affairs).

BJP president J P Nadda, recently inducted into the Cabinet, will lead the Health and Family Welfare ministry and the Chemicals and Fertilizers ministry.

Key ministers retaining their portfolios include Hardeep Singh Puri (Petroleum), Nitin Gadkari (Road Transport and Highways), and Piyush Goyal (Commerce).

Ashwini Vaishnaw will continue as the Railways minister while also taking on the Information and Broadcasting Ministry.

Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will manage the Agriculture ministry, and Kiren Rijiju has been assigned the Parliamentary Affairs ministry.

Former Haryana Chief Minister ML Khattar will oversee the Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry and the Power Ministry.

Among NDA allies, TDP’s Ram Mohan Naidu, the youngest minister in the Cabinet, will handle the Civil Aviation Ministry, while JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy will be in charge of Steel and Heavy Industries.

The Civil Aviation Ministry, previously managed by Jyotiraditya Scindia, is now under Ram Mohan Naidu, with Scindia taking over the Telecom ministry.

Prime Minister Modi retains control of the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions; Department of Atomic Energy, Department of Space, and any other portfolios not assigned to other ministers.

The Cabinet consists of 71 members in addition to the Prime Minister. This includes 30 cabinet ministers, five ministers of state (independent charge), and 36 ministers of state.

Uttar Pradesh has the highest representation with 11 ministers, followed by Bihar with eight. Maharashtra and Gujarat each have six ministers, while Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh each have five.
