Pune: 12-year-old boy swept away in Mutha river
Pune: In a heartbreaking incident that occurred at around 5 pm on July 29, a twelve-year-old school going boy was swept away after he fell in Mutha river.
A schoolboy, about 12 years old was swept away in Mutha after he fell in the river from a bridge near Poona Hospital in Sadashiv Peth yesterday around 5 pm. The fire brigade teams could not find him till late night.
As large amounts of water are being released into the Mutha river from Khadakwasla dam, the bridge between Bhide and Shivane got submerged again by Monday morning.
Local residents have been alerted of the water discharge due to the ongoing rainfall in the dam area and the police had erected temporary barriers and closed the Bhide bridge to traffic as water flowed over it.
The SM Joshi Bridge riverside near Poona Hospital was also heavily inundated. The schoolboy was reportedly sitting on a bench in the vicinity when he suddenly fell into the river. Alarmed citizens immediately called for help, and the incident was reported to the fire brigade.
Fire brigade personnel swiftly initiated a search operation, but the boy remained unlocated as of late Monday night.
