Pune: 2,633 Motorists Caught for Traffic Violations on New Year’s Eve
The Pune city traffic police took stringent action against traffic violators during the New Year’s Eve celebrations, collecting a total of ₹1,981,450 in fines over two days. The crackdown targeted various offenses on December 31, 2024, and January 1, 2025, with 2,633 motorists penalized for breaching traffic laws. Among them, 85 motorists were booked for driving under the influence of alcohol.

- December 31, 2024: The police took action against 422 motorists for drunk driving, including 100 in Pune city and 322 in Pimpri-Chinchwad.
- Other Violations: A total of 902 challans were issued for obstructing the free flow of traffic, 118 for jumping traffic signals, and 632 for breaching ‘no entry’ zones. Additional penalties included 23 cases for driving without helmets, 176 for triple-seat driving, and 49 for using mobile phones while driving.
- Preventive Efforts: The traffic police emphasized that driving under the influence of alcohol is a punishable offense and implemented special measures to mitigate the risk of accidents.
- Year-on-Year Comparison: Between December 1 and December 29, 2024, authorities booked 549 motorists for drunk driving, a significant rise compared to 169 cases during the same period in 2023.
