Pune, September 12, 2024: The Pune city traffic department has launched a special campaign to enforce traffic rules more strictly. Between August 1 and September 10, action was taken against 14,776 drivers for driving triple seat vehicles in the wrong direction. This effort resulted in fines amounting to Rs 94.69 lakh being recovered from the violators.

The increase in reckless driving has caused significant traffic congestion, especially during the recent Ganeshotsav festivities. To address this, the traffic police intensified their campaign, targeting those who violate traffic rules. Between September 7 and September 10 alone, action was taken against 1,066 motorists driving in the wrong direction, with Rs 3.17 lakh in fines recovered. Additionally, 2,101 drivers of triple seat vehicles were fined, resulting in Rs 20.99 lakh being collected during the same period.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Amol Zende, emphasized that drivers should follow traffic rules to prevent traffic jams. He also warned that repeated violations could lead to the suspension of drivers’ licenses.

From August 1 to August 31, 6,750 wrong-side drivers were penalized, with a total of Rs 23.33 lakh collected in fines. During the same period, 4,859 triple seat drivers were fined Rs 47.20 lakh for violating traffic laws. The campaign continues as the city seeks to curb reckless driving and reduce traffic congestion.
