Pune International Airport is set to open its new terminal on 14th July, bringing an end to a long wait and a significant relief to passengers with enhanced facilities and increased capacity. Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Cooperation, Muralidhar Mohol, has announced the opening, emphasizing the extensive efforts to address previous delays caused by technical issues and the unavailability of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel.

Addressing Delays and Deployment of CISF Personnel

The opening of the new terminal at Pune Airport faced delays due to the unavailability of CISF personnel and other technical hurdles. Minister Muralidhar Mohol, who became an MP from Pune and later assumed the role of Minister of State for Civil Aviation, prioritized resolving these issues for the benefit of Pune’s citizens. To expedite the process, Minister Mohol met with Home Minister Amit Shah, resulting in the immediate deployment of CISF personnel at Pune Airport. This deployment has allowed the final technical processes to commence and be completed promptly.

Features of the New Terminal

The new terminal at Pune Airport spans across 52 square meters and has an annual passenger handling capacity of 9 million. It can process up to 3,000 passengers per hour. Key features of the new terminal include:

In a symbolic gesture, Minister Muralidhar Mohol will issue the first boarding pass at the new terminal. The official opening ceremony will take place on 14th July at 1 PM, with boarding passes being issued to Air India passengers. The new terminal is expected to significantly improve the overall efficiency and capacity of Pune Airport, benefiting travelers with modern amenities and reduced waiting times.

Minister Mohol expressed his satisfaction with the progress, stating, “CISF personnel have arrived at Pune Airport, and the installation of the inland baggage system in the new terminal has been completed. The ongoing technical processes are being finalized promptly, paving the way for the new terminal to become operational. The new terminal will serve Pune residents from 14th July.”
