Pune: City Records Season’s Lowest Temperature at 12.9°C
Pune, November 20, 2024: The city recorded the lowest minimum temperature of this season at 12.9 degrees Celsius on Tuesday morning. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the temperature is likely to drop further for the next 2-3 days, increasing the cold in the city.
The minimum temperature witnessed a huge fluctuation during the last week. On November 13, Pune’s minimum temperature was 14.6 degrees Celsius, which was below normal. But after this, the temperature rose to 20.5 degrees Celsius on November 15, which was 5.8 degrees above normal. However, a continuous drop in temperature was seen in the last three days.
The temperature in Shivajinagar was recorded at 18.3 degrees Celsius on November 17, which dropped by 4 degrees in 24 hours to 14.5 degrees Celsius on November 18. It then dropped by another 2 degrees on Tuesday. The temperature in November this year was much colder than last year. The lowest temperature in November last year was 14 degrees Celsius, while this year it dropped to 12.9 degrees.
In other areas like NDA, Baramati and Haveli, the minimum temperature touched 11 degrees Celsius. Four other stations in Pune recorded temperatures around 12 degrees Celsius. Weathermen have attributed the cold spell to northerly winds, reduced humidity and clear skies.
S. D. Sanap, senior meteorologist, IMD Pune, said, “Due to northerly cold winds, the humidity in the state has reduced by 10-15% and the amount of clouds has also decreased, leading to a drop in temperature. This situation may persist for the next 3-4 days. However, the temperature will rise again due to increased humidity due to easterly winds from Saturday morning.”
According to the IMD forecast, Pune is likely to have dry weather and light fog in the morning and evening till November 25, due to which the city will continue to experience cold.
