Pune: Election Administration Alerts Public to False Voting Information
Pune, November 16, 2024: The election administration has observed that misleading messages are circulating on WhatsApp and social media, falsely suggesting that citizens without their names on the voter list can still vote by filling out Form No. 17 and presenting a voter ID.
Voters are strongly advised to ignore such messages, avoid sharing them, and not rely on any information that is unverified.
One such message falsely claims, “Citizens whose names are not on the voter list can fill out Form No. 17 at the polling booth and vote with a voter ID.” This is incorrect. Form No. 17 is intended solely for students who did not pass their 10th or 12th exams and is unrelated to voting.
For voter registration, Form No. 6 is the appropriate document, and it must be submitted in advance for inclusion on the voter list. Submitting any form at the polling booth will not allow a citizen to vote if their name is not on the list.
The election administration urges citizens to exercise caution and avoid sharing or believing in such misinformation. Strict action will be taken against those spreading false information.
