Pune: Ex Corporator urges Nitin Gadkari for another underpass below NH-4 in Baner to alleviate traffic
Amol Balwadkar, the former Chairman of the City Improvement Committee and Ex Corporator for Baner, Balewadi, and Pashan has urged Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari for an underpass just before Mula River near Sadanand Regency, Baner on the Mumbai- Bangalore National Highway.
He has been vocal about the traffic problems faced by the residents of Balewadi, Baner, Mhalunge, Sus and Pashan especially due to a large number of potholes in service roads in the area. All the service roads along the NH-4 are ridden with potholes and the situation worsens with rains.
He is demanding a permanent solution to potholes in the area by constructing concrete service roads.
Balwadekar wrote on ‘X’, “Baner-Balewadi-Sus-Mahalunge residents are daily facing very huge traffic congestion. This traffic issue can only be resolved by constructing one more underpass just before Mula River near Sadanand Regency, Baner on the Mumbai-Bangalore National Highway. Even the service road is filled with potholes so instead of repairing the current road, a new concrete road should be developed. I have been following up on this for many years but unfortunately, no progress has been made. You are our last hope in this matter, so on behalf of the residents I request your personal intervention to resolve this traffic issue.”

He emphasized the urgent need for an additional underpass and the development of a new concrete road to replace the deteriorating service road. He expressed dissatisfaction over the lack of progress despite persistent efforts over the years.
As Balwadekar raised this issue not just on X but also on ground by recently leading a protest against inaction of administration over the traffic issues faced by the residents in the area, many users responded to his post, echoing a similar sentiment:
Ongoing metro construction projects, lack of adequate infrastructure matching the growth of traffic and deteriorating condition of roads have compounded Pune’s traffic situation. As residents continue to face daily challenges, Balwadkar’s appeal represents the voice of many residents in the area for timely infrastructure improvements to address these growing concerns.
