Jabalpur: A devastating road accident near Kaladehi in Jabalpur claimed the lives of three members of a Pune-based family traveling to Prayagraj for the Mahakumbh. The accident occurred around 4:30 PM when their speeding Innova Crysta lost control and collided with a culvert wall.
Of the four passengers, three—Vinod Patel (50), his wife Shilpa Patel (47), and his sister-in-law Neeru Patel (48)—died on the spot. The sole survivor, Naresh Patel, Vinod’s brother, sustained critical injuries and is receiving treatment at a private hospital in Jabalpur.
Details of the Incident
According to Kamlesh Chouria, Station In-charge of Bargi Police Station, the vehicle overturned due to the high-speed impact after striking the culvert. Emergency services rushed to the site, and the injured were immediately transported to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Medical College in Jabalpur. Tragically, three passengers were declared dead upon arrival.
Eyewitnesses at the scene acted swiftly, notifying the authorities about the crash. The victims were later identified by the police, who have since informed the family’s relatives in Pune.
Police Investigation
Preliminary investigations suggest that the high speed of the vehicle caused the driver to lose control, leading to the collision. Bargi Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Sunil Nema confirmed that efforts are underway to determine the exact cause of the accident.
“The impact was so severe that it left the car overturned on the road. Passersby immediately called the police, and all four occupants were found with severe injuries,” Nema stated.
The deceased have been sent for post-mortem examinations, and further inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the accident are ongoing. The incident serves as a grim reminder of the dangers of speeding on highways, particularly during long journeys.
