Pune: The Pune District administration has intensified its efforts to complete the land acquisition process for the ambitious Ring Road project, designed to ease traffic congestion in the city.

Out of the required 1,740 hectares, approximately 1,300 hectares have been acquired, leaving 200 hectares pending.

The pending acquisition includes 143 hectares in the eastern region and 63 hectares in the western region, covering areas such as Purandar, Bhor, Haveli, Mulshi, and Maval talukas in the east, as well as Khed and Maval talukas in the west. Landowners who voluntarily hand over their land by December 15 will receive an additional 25% compensation. After this deadline, a compulsory acquisition process will begin, with compensation set at four times the market value.

Dr. Suhas Diwase, Pune’s District Collector, has instructed taluka land acquisition officers to expedite the process. During a meeting held on December 11, he emphasized the urgency of the remaining acquisitions and confirmed that a ₹500 crore fund request has been submitted to the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC). This funding is essential for the acquisition of the remaining 200 hectares.

The project requires land from 83 villages—47 villages in the eastern region (858.96 hectares) and 36 villages in the western region (644.11 hectares). To date, some funds remain allocated with land acquisition officers for finalizing ownership settlements. MSRDC officials have been directed to promptly release the requested funds to avoid project delays.

Dr. Diwase remarked, “The land acquisition for Pune’s Ring Road project is nearing completion. We have instructed officials to expedite the process and ensure that the required funds are disbursed on time.”

The Ring Road project is a critical initiative for improving Pune’s infrastructure and is now in its final stages of land acquisition.
