Pune: Fire Breaks Out at Birthday Celebration in Kondhwa, Six Rescued by Fire Brigade

Pune, December 17, 2024: A fire broke out at 2:39 PM in two adjoining clothing shops on the ground floor of a three-storey building in Bhagyoday Nagar, Kondhwa Khurd. The fire, which quickly spread, trapped five women and a three-year-old boy on the upper floor, sparking panic in the area.

Two fire engines from the Kondhwa Khurd and Kondhwa Budruk fire stations were dispatched after receiving the alert. Firefighters acted promptly to contain the blaze using water jets and breathing apparatus (BA sets) to navigate through the dense smoke. Within 20 minutes, the fire was brought under control, averting a major disaster.

The timely response of the Pune Fire Brigade ensured the safe rescue of the six individuals, including the young boy who was celebrating his third birthday. The incident resulted in extensive damage to clothing, wooden furniture, electrical equipment, and machinery. Minor injuries were reported, with one woman sustaining a leg injury and a firefighter suffering a minor burn on his hand.

Residents praised the bravery of the firefighters, whose quick action prevented further tragedy. Those involved in the operation included drivers Ravindra Hiwarkar, Satyam Chaukhade, and firefighters Rafiq Sheikh, Kishor Mohite, Yogesh Pisal, Sagar Dalvi, Nilesh Wankhede, Kunal Khode, Govind Gite, Harshal Yewale, and Harshvardhan Khade.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
