Pune/Hinjawadi: New Flyover, Roads, and Road Widening Projects Worth ₹650 Crore to Ease Traffic in the IT Park
The Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) has announced a massive ₹650 crore infrastructure project aimed at reducing severe traffic congestion in Hinjawadi IT Park, a major hub for IT professionals. The project includes a new flyover, road widening, and additional road connectivity to improve the daily commuting experience for thousands of professionals.
Key Projects Underway:
- 720-Meter Flyover at Laxmi Chowk:
To address frequent traffic snarls at Laxmi Chowk, a four-lane, 720-meter flyover will be constructed at a cost of ₹40 crore. The tender process for this project is in its final stage, with work expected to commence soon. - 900-Meter Road Expansion:
A six-lane expansion of the road from Chhatrapati Shivaji Chowk to Smashan Bhumi Chowk in Hinjawadi is planned. This ₹24.74 crore project will begin after the completion of land acquisition by the Public Works Department (PWD). - 5-Kilometer Road Connecting Phase 1 to Phase 3:
MIDC has proposed the construction of a new 5-kilometer road connecting Phase One to Phase Three of Hinjawadi IT Park, costing ₹584.14 crore. This project aims to enhance connectivity across the industrial zone. - Six-Lane Baner Road Link:
A six-lane road connecting Baner to Hinjawadi IT Park is also part of the initiative. The road spans 5.75 kilometers, with 2.5 kilometers already completed. The remaining 3.25 kilometers will resume once the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) approves the Town Planning Scheme (TP Scheme).
Security Upgrades:
As part of the infrastructure overhaul, MIDC is also focusing on security enhancements within the IT Park. Out of the planned 300 CCTV cameras, 280 have already been installed.
Project Timeline and Stakeholders:
The projects are being fast-tracked following meetings between MIDC officials and the Hinjawadi Industries Association (HIA) chaired by Industries Minister Uday Samant. The land acquisition for road widening and new constructions will be managed by the PWD, while MIDC will oversee the project execution.
These developments are expected to significantly reduce daily traffic congestion, enhance connectivity, and support the continued growth of Hinjawadi as a prominent IT and business hub.
