Pune: MahaMetro Okays Flyover Construction at Vishrantwadi Chowk, Connecting Airport Road with Alandi Road
Pune: The MahaMetro has given a green signal to the construction of a flyover at Vishrantwadi Chowk, connecting Airport Road with Alandi Road.
A joint inspection was carried out to check if the flyover and proposed Metro line from the chowk can be executed without clashing with each other’s alignment.
To alleviate traffic congestion at Mukundrao Ambedkar Chowk in Vishrantwadi, the Pune Municipal Corporation is constructing a flyover and a subway.
Recently, Union Minister of State Murlidhar Mohol held a meeting at Pune Municipal Corporation, where questions about the flyover’s design were raised. Mohol ordered a halt to the construction and asked for verification of the objections.
As a result of these concerns, work on the flyover was temporarily suspended awaiting the joint inspection by MahaMetro and PMC. An official from PMC confirmed that both agencies have reviewed the designs and concluded that the metro line can be constructed without interfering with the flyover plans.
The PMC has already successfully implemented similar provisions for metro pillars on another flyover project at Sinhagad Road. The Vishrantwadi Chowk flyover will be the second such instance where the civic body will make provisions to accommodate the metro line within its design framework.
