Pune: Mahavitaran Workers Carry Electricity Pole on Foot for 1.5 Hours to Restore Power to Villages
Karungan (Bhor taluka): An electricity pole on the main line of the Waghjai feeder fell on a mountain in Karungan, disrupting power supply to ten villages. The incident occurred on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, leaving the residents of Karungan, Warwand, Shirgaon Ashimpi, Umbarde, Shilimb, Kund, Rajwadi, Durgadi, and Abhepuri without electricity.
To restore power, employees of Mahavitaran, Maharashtra’s state electricity distributor, took on an extraordinary task. A new pole was transported by vehicle to Karungan on Wednesday, December 18. However, due to the mountainous terrain, vehicles could not reach the affected site. The workers tied the new pole to wooden supports and carried it on foot for an hour and a half over rugged and steep paths.
Once the pole reached the site, it was immediately installed, wires reconnected, and power restored by Wednesday evening. The efforts of Mahavitaran employees brought relief to the ten affected villages, which had been without electricity for over 24 hours.
Villagers expressed their gratitude for the dedication and hard work of the team, praising their quick action despite challenging circumstances. Key contributors included Bhor Deputy Executive Engineer Avinash Waghmare, Junior Engineer Sagar Pawar, Principal Technician Rajendra Vanve, Senior Technician Ranjit Babar, and other team members.
