Pune: Major Traffic Changes Announced for New Year’s Eve in Camp, Shivajinagar, and Deccan Areas
Pune, December 30, 2024: As Pune gears up for New Year’s Eve celebrations, the Pune City Police have announced a series of traffic restrictions to ensure smooth vehicular movement and public safety. These changes, effective from 5 PM on December 31 until the dispersal of crowds, will primarily affect Camp, Shivajinagar, and Deccan areas. The measures also include a crackdown on drunk driving, with checkpoints set up across the city.
Key Traffic Changes:
- No Vehicle Zones:
- Fergusson College Road: From Good Luck Chowk to Fergusson College Main Gate.
- Mahatma Gandhi Road (MG Road): From 15 August Chowk to Aurora Towers.
- Diversions in Camp Area:
- Traffic from Y Junction to MG Road: Stopped at 15 August Chowk and diverted via Qureshi Masjid and Sujata Mastani Chowk.
- Traffic from Iskon Temple to Aurora Towers: Stopped and diverted.
- Traffic from Sarbatwala Chowk to Mahaveer Chowk: Diverted via Taboot Street Chowk.
- Traffic from Indira Gandhi Chowk to Mahaveer Chowk: Redirected via Lashkar Police Station Chowk.
- Traffic from Volga Chowk to Mohammed Rafi Chowk: Rerouted via East Street and Indira Gandhi Chowk.
- Diversions in Shivajinagar and Deccan Area:
- Traffic from Kothrud and Karve Road: Stopped at Khandoji Baba Chowk and diverted via Law College Road, Prabhat Road, and Alka Talkies Chowk.
- Traffic from Jungli Maharaj Road to Khandoji Baba Chowk: Stopped and rerouted via Balgandharva Chowk, PMC, Omkareshwar Temple, and Shivaji Road.
- Fergusson College Road Diversions: Traffic from bylanes leading to Fergusson College Road will be stopped and diverted.
Road Closures:
- Fergusson College Road and MG Road will be entirely closed to vehicles from 5 PM on December 31 to 5 AM on January 1.

Crackdown on Drunk Driving:
To ensure safety, the Pune Police will conduct extensive checks for drunk driving. Breath analyzers will be used, and single-use plastic tubes will ensure hygiene during testing. Violators will face strict penalties.
