Santosh Iyer, the Managing Director and CEO of Mercedes-Benz India, expressed worries about the increasing commute time for employees due to severe traffic congestion in Chakan, Pune.

The company has had to make revisions to its bus schedules because the employees’ daily travel time has increased by almost an hour. Employees’ ability to maintain a work-life balance is being impacted by the extra travel time, which limits their family time.

The Mercedes-Benz production facility in Chakan is not alone in facing these challenges, as the traffic congestion in the area is affecting many industries.

While it’s tolerable in the mornings, the traffic gets much worse in the evening rush hours. Iyer said the company has contacted the government and asked for prompt action to help the issue. There is hope that the administration would ameliorate the situation within the next 15 to 20 days, as they have promised.
