Last month, Pune Metro broke all records and registered its highest ridership in any month, since commencement of its operations.

With 2,616,953 commuters taking the metro in the month of May 2024, Pune Metro has created a new record.

The passenger numbers have been steadily growing throughout 2024. January saw 1,755,621 passengers, followed by a slight rise in February with 1,776,626. March experienced a substantial increase, reaching 2,258,049 passengers, and the upward trend continued in April with 2,381,839 passengers.

The growing trend in ridership shows the confidence of Punekars in the efficiency and reliability of Pune Metro. The service has tremendously helped alleviate traffic from Pune roads and help the environment.

Pune Metro is operated by Maha Metro, an entity responsible for managing many metro networks across the state. Currently, Pune Metro operates two lines in the city, namely the Aqua Line from Vanaz to Ramwadi and the Purple line from PCMC to Swargate.

Another metro line, called the Metro Line 3 (Hinjawadi-Shivajinagar) is being constructed and anticipated to commence operations early 2025. This line is being developed by Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA).
