Pune, August 30, 2024: Pune Metro service from Civil Court to Swargate is most likely to start before Ganeshotsav. The line is complete and the CRMS inspection starts today.

Some part of the stretch between Civil Court to Swargate is completely underground and the line is ready. Most likely, the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) will begin safety inspections from Friday, August 30, 2024.

Maha-Metro plans to start the metro service on the District Court to Swargate route before Ganeshotsav to ensure the service is commenced before the enforcement of code of conduct for state assembly elections. It however depends upon how fast the CMRS complete their inspection and issue safety clearance for the line.

There are three stations on this line, namely, Budhwar Peth, Mandai and Swargate, covering a distance of 3.64 km. The line passes under the Mutha river bed between the Civil Court and Budhwar Peth stations, making it the first line in the city to pass underneath a river.

Atul Gadgil, director, Maha-Metro, revealed that the District Court to Swargate metro line is complete. “We are trying to start the service before Ganeshotsav and the CMRS will inspect the line starting Friday. Once the inspection is complete, the line will be open for passenger services as planned.”

Once the safety clearance is received from CMRS, MahaMetro will seek approval from the state government to start the services. Consequently, the services are likely to commence in September.

Enhanced Connectivity for Devotees

Many devotees travel to peth areas during Ganeshotsav to seek blessings from Lord Ganesha and the commencement of this service will prove to be very convenient. These areas are always very crowded during festivities and metro services will make traveling to these areas easy.
