Pune Metro’s Swargate-Katraj extension is set to include a fourth station at Balajinagar, addressing long-standing demands from local citizens and representatives.

The addition is projected to raise the project cost by ₹200-300 crore.

This metro line, extending the Swargate-Pimpri Chinchwad route, initially planned for three stations—Market Yard, Padmavati, and Katraj. The newly approved Balajinagar station will enhance connectivity for residents of Dhankawadi, KK Market, and Balajinagar. The decision comes after Mahametro conducted site inspections and consultations to address accessibility concerns over the 1.9-kilometer gap between Padmavati and Katraj.

Municipal Commissioner Dr. Rajendra Bhosale emphasized the importance of this addition, noting, “Balajinagar residents have long demanded better connectivity. This station will bridge the gap and meet community needs.”

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has conditionally approved the station, agreeing to provide land for construction but requiring Mahametro to bear the full cost. The project now awaits final clearance from the standing committee.
