Pune: Millets Festival 2025 Showcases Nutritional and Economic Benefits of Millets
The Millets Festival 2025, organized by the Maharashtra State Agricultural Marketing Board (MSAMB), is currently underway at Shri Ganesh Kala Krida Rangmanch, Swargate, Pune. The festival, inaugurated by Maharashtra’s Minister of Marketing and Protocol, Jaykumar Rawal, will continue until January 12, 2025. This initiative aims to promote millet production, consumption, and market potential, emphasizing their nutritional and economic significance.
Building on the United Nations’ International Year of Millets (2023), the festival facilitates direct connections between farmers and consumers, ensuring fair prices for farmers and high-quality millet products for attendees. Visitors can explore a range of authentic millets, including jowar (sorghum), bajra (pearl millet), nachni (finger millet), bhagar (barnyard millet), and more. Additionally, innovative millet-based products like ragi biscuits, jowar idli mix, and jowar ice cream are available directly from producers.
The event features interactive sessions with farmers, farmer-producer organizations (FPOs), startups, and self-help groups. Expert talks, live cooking demonstrations, and a buyer-seller meeting offer valuable insights into millet cultivation, value-added processing, and health benefits. Adding to the diversity, Nagpur’s famous orange producers are also showcasing their products.
