PUNE: The construction of a new bridge over the Mula River, linking Sangvi and Bopodi, is nearing completion, with civic officials claiming that around 90% of the work is already done.

The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) and Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) have collaborated on this project to significantly reduce traffic congestion in the areas around this bridge. This new infrastructure is expected to provide a more efficient connection between the Sangvi and Bopodi areas, considerably alleviating traffic congestion at Bremen Chowk, Aundh-Ravet Road, and Khadki Road, said an official.

The project, which began on January 31, 2022, was initially scheduled to be completed within 24 months. However, due to delays in acquiring the required land from the National Agricultural Research Center Rahuri, the completion date has been set for August 31, 2024.

With a cost of Rs 32.36 crores, the bridge stretches 125 meters across the river and consists of five spans, each measuring 25 meters. It features four lanes and footpaths on both sides, with a total width of 18 meters. The approach roads extend 540 meters on the Pune side and 95 meters on the Pimpri Chinchwad side.

According to a report by TOI, PCMC Chief Engineer Shrikant Sawane said, “This bridge is a vital development for our city. It will not only ease traffic but also enhance connectivity and accessibility for residents of both Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad. We are committed to ensuring its timely completion and opening it to the public soon.”
