Pune, August 23, 2024: A new medical room to cater to travelers’ health emergencies was inaugurated at Pune airport on Thursday. This medical room will provide free medical services to travelers round the clock.

Located at the new integrated terminal building of Pune airport (NITB), this facility was inaugurated by Murlidhar Mohol, Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Co-operation and Member of Parliament from Pune.

The medical room is located near the check-in area in the new terminal of Pune airport, and will provide free medical assistance to all passengers. It will be managed and operated by Ruby Hall Clinic’s medical professionals. Open around the clock, it aims to offer continuous support and emergency medical assistance to traveling passengers. There will be a nursing professional and a doctor present at all times.

On this occasion, Santosh Dhoke, Airport Director, and Dr. Purvez Grant, Chairman and Managing Trustee of Grant Medical Foundation (Ruby Hall Clinic), along with other distinguished officials from both the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and the Grant Medical Foundation were present.

In addition to the medical rooms, six Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) have been strategically placed at different locations throughout the terminal building. These AEDs are crucial for delivering immediate electric shocks to restore normal heart rhythms during sudden cardiac arrest, thereby significantly improving survival rates. They are user-friendly, equipped with clear, simple instructions for users.

Pune airport director Santosh Dhoke said that these six machines had been set up at the arrival area, departure area, near the check-in counters, at the security hold area, and at the international security hold area, reported TOI.

An AED machine is a portable unit that can be used to treat someone suffering from a sudden cardiac arrest. These machines are small, lightweight, and easy to use. “The ones set up at the airport have an automatic voice instruction system which can be turned on at the press of a button. One just needs to follow the instructions. Anyone, including common passengers, can use it,” an airport official told TOI.

“Besides the MI Room and AEDs, an on-site ambulance has been positioned on the city side of the airport to handle medical emergencies swiftly and efficiently,” the director said.
