Pune News: Rise of EV Charging Stations in Pune – A Growing Trend for Sustainable Mobility
Pune: Electric vehicles (EVs) have become a popular choice for environmentally conscious individuals and businesses in Pune. With the increasing demand for EVs, the need for reliable and accessible charging infrastructure has also risen. As a result, there is a rise of EV Charging Stations in Pune and several EV charging stations have come up in Pune, including one on Baner-Balewadi Road.
Â
Â
The EV charging park on Baner-Balewadi Road is equipped with two fast chargers that are open 24 hours a day. This provides EV owners with the convenience of charging their vehicles at any time, day or night. The charging station also offers washrooms and a café, allowing drivers to refresh themselves while their vehicle is charging.
Â
The attendant at the charging station mentioned that on average, a car can charge from 0 to 100 percent in about 2 hours, and the cost of a full charge ranges from Rs. 250 to Rs. 300. The charging stations operate on a fully autonomous system, where vehicle owners can download a mobile app like GoEgo, top up their accounts, and use the app to pay for charging their vehicle.
Â
The GoEgo app is available for download on both Android and IOS platforms. Once downloaded, the app allows users to top up their accounts and locate charging stations that accept the app. When the user reaches the charging station, they can initiate the charging process through the app, and the cost of charging will be automatically deducted from their account based on the amount of charge taken.

The rise in EV charging stations in Pune is part of a larger trend towards sustainable mobility. As more people become aware of the impact of their actions on the environment, there has been a growing shift towards cleaner modes of transportation. EVs offer a significant reduction in carbon emissions compared to traditional gasoline-powered vehicles. By providing easy access to charging infrastructure, cities like Pune are making it easier for people to adopt this sustainable mode of transportation.
Â
Apart from environmental benefits, EVs also offer significant cost savings to vehicle owners. The cost of operating an EV is significantly lower than that of a gasoline-powered vehicle, as electricity is cheaper than gasoline. EVs also require less maintenance, as they have fewer moving parts compared to traditional vehicles. With the Indian government incentivizing the adoption of EVs through schemes like FAME II, the cost of owning an EV has become even more attractive.
