Pune: Old terminal at Pune airport to be revamped to create additional facilities for travelers

Pune, August 27, 2024: Recently Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Co-operation and Pune MP, Murlidhar Mohol had conducted an inspection of the facilities at Pune airport. He announced addition of more passenger facilities at the airport.

The minister said, “the New Integrated Terminal Building at Pune Airport with peak hour capacity of 3000 passengers had been commissioned on 14 July, 2024 and is in operation since then. Total 34 Check-In counters are provided in Check-In area of NITB.”

Mohol announced that since the New Integrated Terminal Building (NITB) at Pune airport is now fully operational, the old terminal will be revamped to create additional passenger facilities.

In order to further reduce arrival/departure time and ensure quicker security check at Pune airport, Airports Authority of India (AAI) has decided to add the following facilities:

  • 16 additional check-in counters (in addition to the 34 counters in the the new terminal)
  • Enhanced security check-in area with provision for Door Frame Metal Detectors (DFMDs), X-ray machines, Airport Systems integrated with New Integrated Terminal Building (NITB)
  • Retail shops
  • The existing arrival area of the old terminal will be converted into the extended departure hall of New Integrated Terminal Building (NITB) with a connecting bridge in between.

In total, 4000 sq.m. of passenger handling area will be added at an additional cost of Rs. 25.00 cr. The additional area will be ready and put to use by March 2025, the minister announced.
