The Pune Outer Ring Road, currently under construction by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), aims to drastically reduce travel time for vehicles journeying between Mumbai and other major cities like Solapur, Satara, Sangli, Kolhapur, Ahilyanagar, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Nashik, Mulshi, and Panshet.

This road will provide seamless interchanges across five national highways and two state highways, allowing travelers to bypass Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, and significantly reducing congestion within these city areas.

Project Highlights:

  • Reduced Travel Time: The new ring road is projected to save commuters approximately 1.5 to 2 hours, cutting down fuel consumption as well.
  • Traffic Alleviation: To ease traffic congestion in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, a 172-kilometer-long, 110-meter-wide ring road is under development.
  • Cost and Construction Phases: With a recently approved revised cost estimate of ₹42,711 crores, the ring road is divided into two sections—East and West. The East section has seven phases, and the West section has five. The entire project is expected to be completed in the next 2.5 to 3 years.
  • Land Acquisition: Land acquisition is nearly complete, with 75% of land acquired for the East section and 95% for the West section.
