Pune: Pavana dam is now 100% full; water being discharged into Pavana river
Pune, August 27, 2024: Pavana dam near Lonavla has reached its maximum capacity and water is being released into Pavana river. Those living near the banks of the river should exercise caution.
Irrigation authorities have reported that due to recent heavy rains, Pavana dam, located near Lonavala has been filled to its 100% capacity. Consequently, water is being discharged into Pavana river.
For power generation, 1400 cusecs of water is being released, additionally excess water, at the rate of 2220 cusecs, is also being released into the downstream river.
Totally, 3620 cusecs of water is being released into Pavana river from 3 pm today. Since this river passes through many areas in Pimpri Chinchwad, residents are advised to remove all machinery, pumps and other movable property from the river bed to avoid damage.
Residents are further advised not to venture near the riverbanks as the water discharge can be decreased or increased depending upon need and rainfall activity.
