Pune: Pavana, Mulshi, Panshet, and Khadakwasla Dams Release Water Due to Heavy Rain in Catchment Areas
Pune, September 05, 2024: Catchment areas of all dams around Pune have received heavy rain. The dams are already almost full and consequently water is being released into their respective riverbeds.
Pavana Dam has reached its full capacity of 100%, and due to continuous rainfall in the catchment area, 2220 cusecs of water is being released into the riverbed today from 2:00 p.m. through the spillway. The discharge of water will be increased or decreased depending upon the situation.
Mulshi dam is also discharging water into Mula river at the rate of 11,742 cusecs starting at 4:00 pm today. Panshet dam began releasing water at the rate of 1,577 cusecs of water today at 11:00 a.m., as informed by the Sub-Divisional Engineer, Mutha Canal Irrigation Sub-Division, Swargate.
From Khadakwasla Dam, there is a continuous discharge of 8132 cusecs of water into the Mutha riverbed. The flow was increased to 11,704 cusecs by 5:00 p.m. today, as per the Sub-Divisional Engineer, Mutha Canal Irrigation Sub-Division, Pune.
These discharges are routine and there is no cause for concern or panic. However authorities are urging citizens to remove animals, machinery or any other equipment from riverbeds to prevent damage and exercise caution while venturing near riverbanks.
