Pune: PCMC acts tough on those responsible for mosquito breeding sites

Pune/PCMC: 14 persons have been penalized under the heading “Creation of mosquito breeding places” as per the penal norms following the inspection carried out by the Pesticide and Thermal Fumigation Department of the Municipal Corporation from 1st to 22nd June 2024 due to the detection of mosquito larvae at various places in the city. Also notices have been issued to 585 establishments. A total fine of 72 thousand rupees has been recovered in this action.

A total of 1 lakh 1 thousand 195 houses and 280 constructions were inspected on behalf of the inspection team at various places in the city. In this total mosquito larvae were found in 1 thousand 450 houses. Also during this inspection 282 tyres, puncture scrap shops, 4 lakh 74 thousand 40 containers were also inspected. Mosquito larvae were found in 1 thousand 454 containers. Appropriate mosquito control measures have been taken at this place and a notice has been issued to the concerned.

Enforcement of Strict Measures Against Unaddressed Mosquito Breeding Sites

All establishments including industrial, construction establishments, offices, households, as well as commercial shops should immediately destroy their existing mosquito breeding sites otherwise strict action will be taken. Also, the Municipal Corporation has focused special attention on the various construction sites in the city. After inspecting those areas, notices are being issued to the concerned. Apart from this, penal action is being taken against the establishments where such places are found.

Importance of Regularly Checking Household Appliances

Containers filled with clean water inside and outside the house are breeding grounds for mosquitoes, as well as water in indoor flower-pots, money plants and fridge drip pans.

Rapid kits for dengue testing have been made available in municipal hospitals and clinics. Action is being taken by releasing guppy fish in clean water for pest control, surveying house containers by inspecting various places in the city, appointing inspection teams to survey business places and taking action where mosquito larvae are found.

Citizens are encouraged to cooperate with the municipal inspection teams.

Necessary precautions are being taken by the Municipal Corporation to prevent the spread of diseases like winter fever, dengue, chikungunya during monsoon. In order to effectively implement the Dengue and Malaria prevention campaign in the city, citizens should cooperate with the staff of the inspection team if they come for inspection to prevent the outbreak of dengue in the city.
