Pune: PMC Acquires 20 Locations for Water Tanks in Newly Merged Villages to Address Water Scarcity
Pune, December 20, 2024: Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has acquired 20 amenity spaces in villages recently integrated into its jurisdiction. These locations have been earmarked for constructing water tanks, expected to collectively store approximately 3.5 crore liters of daily water supply.
Since 2017, 32 villages have been added to PMC—11 in 2017 and 23 in 2021—excluding Uruli Devachi and Fursungi. The villages lack reliable water supply sources, relying heavily on tankers due to a lack of alternative options. Rapid construction and increasing population in these areas have further escalated the demand for water supply.
To address this, PMC’s Water Supply Department has devised a water supply plan for the integrated villages. Construction work has already commenced in areas like Lohgaon-Wagholi, Sus-Mhalunge, and Bavdhan. During today’s amenity space committee meeting, it was decided to allocate 20 locations in villages such as Ambegaon Khurd, Ambegaon Budruk, Sus, Mhalunge, Bavdhan, Jambhulwadi, Lohgaon, and Wagholi for water tank construction.
Nandkishore Jagtap, Head of the Water Supply Department, stated that the water supply blueprint has been prepared, and some projects are already underway. He emphasized the necessity of building water tanks with one-third of the area’s total water capacity to ensure adequate supply. With this decision, the water tanks will soon be constructed, providing a storage capacity of 3.5 crore liters to meet the daily water needs of the integrated villages.
