Pune: PMC Clears Chronic Garbage Spots for a Cleaner Pune
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has ramped up its sanitation efforts under the Bhavani Peth Regional Office, marking a significant stride toward a cleaner city. Across 15 health wards, sanitation workers have been actively involved in daily street cleaning, segregated wet and dry waste collection, garbage disposal, and the upkeep of public toilets, urinals, and drainage systems.
Targeting Chronic Garbage Spots
In line with the Swachh Survekshan 2024 initiative, PMC successfully eliminated long-standing garbage spots in key areas. The Shramdan Maruti Health Ward addressed waste accumulation at Tadi Gutta, Ganj Peth, while the Guruwar Peth Davakhana Health Ward cleared Chandtara Chowk, transforming these locations into waste-free zones. To ensure sustainability, segregated waste collection from households in the area is now conducted diligently in morning and evening shifts by PMC staff and the Swachh Seva Cooperative Society Ltd.
Leadership Driving Change
This cleanliness drive was spearheaded by Deputy Commissioners Mr. Sandip Kadam (Solid Waste Management) and Dr. Chetana Kerure (Ward No. 5). The initiative’s success also highlights the efforts of:
