Pune: PMC Demolishes Structures During Multiple Anti-Encroachment Drives Across the City

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has been actively conducting anti-encroachment drives across various parts of the city to clear illegal structures and reclaim public spaces.

On Tuesday, the PMC targeted areas including Deccan Gymkhana, Sinhagad Road, Bhavani Peth, and Dhanori. Illegal shops, eateries, and commercial establishments on Ferguson College Road, Deccan Gymkhana, Kalas, Dhanori, and Shivajinagar were demolished, clearing footpaths and roadsides.

The PMC officials used JCBs to remove encroachments from front and side margins, ensuring that the cleared areas were returned to their intended public use. The anti-encroachment department successfully cleared approximately 15,000 square feet of illegal structures during this drive.

The recent actions followed a similar drive on Monday in the Hadapsar and Magarpatta areas, where illegal establishments were removed. The coordinated efforts also extended to other regions such as J M Road, Yerwada, NIBM area, and Nehru Road, demonstrating the PMC’s commitment to maintaining order and addressing unauthorized constructions.

In a separate operation along Pune-Solapur Road, the PMC, under the guidance of its regional offices and building development department, cleared a total of 26,000 square feet of unauthorized constructions. This effort came in response to a recent car accident in Kalyani Nagar, prompting stricter measures against illegal establishments.

Items seized during these drives included handcarts, vegetable and fruit stalls, and various other structures that contributed to the encroachments. The PMC has urged licensed businesses to adhere to regulations and clear any outstanding rents to avoid penalties.

The anti-encroachment activities also extended to Wanowrie, where illegal structures covering 7,500 square feet, including unauthorized hotels and shops, were dismantled. Although the operation was temporarily halted due to a court stay order, the PMC remains determined to resume and complete the demolition once legal hurdles are resolved.

These extensive efforts by the PMC highlight the city’s ongoing battle against encroachments and the commitment to reclaiming public spaces for the benefit of all citizens.
