Pune: PMC Deploys 15 SCOD Vehicles to Enforce Cleanliness and Penalize Public Littering
Pune, December 25, 2024: To reinforce cleanliness in public spaces, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has launched SCOD vehicles under its Solid Waste Management Department. The initiative, inaugurated on December 24, 2024, by Municipal Commissioner Dr. Rajendra Bhosale, includes the deployment of 18 Bolero vehicles. These vehicles have been allocated to 15 regional offices, the Central Plastic Squad, the Engineering Department, and the Sanitation Department.
The SCOD vehicles will be used to conduct daily penalty actions against offenses such as littering, the use of banned plastic, waste burning, and debris dumping within PMC’s jurisdiction. Since the campaign’s inception on October 2, 2023, PMC has imposed penalties in 72,778 cases, collecting ₹4.03 crore in fines and seizing 6,268 kilograms of plastic.
The inauguration ceremony, held at the PMC headquarters, saw the presence of several key dignitaries, including Additional Commissioner Mr. Prithviraj B.P., Deputy Commissioners Mr. Sandeep Kadam and Mr. Raju Nandkar, Executive Engineers Mr. Prasad Jagtap and Mr. Mukund Barve, Deputy Chief Health Inspectors, Assistant Commissioners of regional offices, and Senior Health Inspectors.
Municipal Commissioner Dr. Bhosale emphasized the efficient use of SCOD vehicles, urging regional offices to operate them in two shifts to maximize impact. Punitive actions will be implemented daily by the 15 regional offices and the Central Plastic Squad. The addition of SCOD vehicles strengthens PMC’s ability to tackle offenses like littering, spitting, creating public nuisance, and garbage burning.
This comprehensive initiative reflects PMC’s commitment to maintaining public cleanliness and enforcing waste management regulations effectively.
