Pune: PMRDA to dismantle 472 illegal hoardings from next week

Following the tragic hoarding collapse incident in Mumbai On Tuesday, the State government’s disaster management department issued an advisory to all municipal corporations and district disaster management authorities, urging them to take appropriate action and audit hoardings in urban and highway areas to avoid tragic incidents.

They also requested that all corporations warn citizens not to stop near billboards during natural disasters in order to avoid accidents caused by falling hoardings.

According to Hindustan Times, PMRDA commissioner Rahul Mahiwal held a meeting on Wednesday and decided to open a tender and issue a work order as soon as possible to take action against illegal hoardings in PMRDA jurisdiction. Sunil Marale, joint director of planning at PMRDA, responded to the development, saying, “We approached the ECI for permission to open the tender. Following the Mumbai incident, the PMRDA commissioner decided on Wednesday to open a tender and issue a work order.

Sachin Maske, tehsildar and PMRDA sky and sign department officials, stated, “After the hoarding policy, PMRDA appealed to all hoarding owners to register their hoardings and obtain permission in accordance with the policy.” Aside from that, PMRDA conducted surveys on highways and main roads, discovering 1057 structures so far.
