Pune Police to Take Strict Action Against Late Night Cracker Busting During Celebrations

The Pune Police have announced a crackdown on late-night firecracker celebrations disrupting residential neighborhoods. This decision comes after mounting complaints from residents and legal professionals about the disturbance caused by birthday celebrations held in public spaces late at night.

In recent months, it has become common for groups of 15 to 25 youths to gather in public places such as roads and chowks to celebrate birthdays. These gatherings often involve cake-cutting ceremonies, bursting firecrackers, and loud noise, which residents claim occurs as frequently as two to three times a week. Many complaints to the police helpline (112) have gone unanswered or resulted in superficial actions, such as dispersing the crowd without penalties.

Residents across Pune have voiced their frustration over this nuisance. They report that groups, often from nearby areas, threaten individuals who attempt to intervene. Some even allege that the disturbances resume shortly after police intervention, undermining efforts to maintain peace. The issue has prompted widespread discontent, with citizens and advocates urging stricter enforcement.

In response, Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar has issued orders for increased patrolling in affected areas. Additional Police Inspector S. S. Nikam confirmed the implementation of these measures, stating, “Strict action will be taken against groups found bursting firecrackers late at night and causing disturbances.” These actions aim to curb the growing trend of late-night celebrations that not only disrupt neighborhoods but also foster loitering, vandalism, and altercations.

Advocates and concerned citizens have stressed the need for consistent enforcement, highlighting how such disturbances negatively impact the quality of life in the city. Many hope that the new measures will restore order and deter individuals from engaging in such disruptive behavior.
