Pune: RTO Cracks Down on Vehicles Without PUC Certificates; ₹65 Lakh Fines Collected
The Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO) has intensified its efforts to combat rising pollution levels by enforcing strict compliance with Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate requirements.
Over the past nine months, the RTO inspected 14,000 vehicles, penalizing 4,500 drivers who failed to produce a valid PUC certificate, and recovered fines amounting to ₹65 lakh.
The issue has gained urgency with the onset of fog, which worsens air quality. To address the problem, the RTO has announced plans to escalate inspections of vehicles operating without valid PUC certification.
In October alone, the RTO’s Vayuveg Inspection Team checked 5,323 vehicles and penalized 1,465 drivers for non-compliance, collecting ₹19 lakh in fines. The RTO is urging vehicle owners to get their emissions tested promptly to comply with pollution control norms and contribute to cleaner air.
