Pune School Headmaster Drowns During School Trip at Kashid Beach
Pune, 28 December 2024: Dharmendra Deshmukh (56), Headmaster of Mahatma Jyotirao Phule High School, Pisoli, Pune, died of drowning during a school trip at Kashid Beach in Murud taluka of Raigad district, Maharashtra.
The unfortunate incident took place when Deshmukh was enjoying his annual vacation with a group of 11 students and teachers. During the festival season, the popular Kashid Beach was crowded with tourists.
According to eyewitnesses, the group got into the water for swimming and entertainment in the sea. Meanwhile, Deshmukh was swept into deep water by a strong wave and disappeared beneath the waves.
The lifeguards stationed at Kashid Beach immediately started a search and rescue operation. After some time, they managed to pull Deshmukh out of the water. He was immediately taken to Borli Primary Health Center and later referred to Civil Hospital in Alibaug. However, the doctors declared him brought dead.
The incident turned a school group’s end-of-year fun trip into deep grief.
