In a tragic accident on Wednesday morning, Ashok Devbahadur Gharti (32), a resident of Wadgaon Sheri, lost his life after being hit by a PMPML bus near Tata Guard Room Chowk on Pune-Ahilyadevinagar Road in Chandannagar around 6 am.

According to the FIR filed by Gopal Gharti at Chandan Nagar Police Station, the victim’s 33-year-old brother and a resident of Anand Park, Wadgaon Sheri, the PMPML bus driver ignored traffic rules and drove recklessly at high speed. The accident occurred as Ashok, riding his scooter, slowed down to take a left turn near Gajalakshmi Jewellers Corner when the bus collided with his vehicle from behind.

“The impact flung Gharti into the air, and he landed on his head,” said Assistant Police Inspector Dattaprasad Shedge, who is investigating the case. Despite immediate efforts by passersby to call the police and ambulance, Gharti succumbed to his injuries.

The PMPML bus driver has been detained but not yet arrested. “The victim was on his way to Kharadi Chowk from Pune station when the incident occurred,” Shedge added. “Ashok had left home early to deliver food articles to a Chinese food stall where he worked as a cook in the Vimannagar area.”

The FIR alleges that the bus driver’s negligence and high-speed driving caused the accident, resulting in Ashok’s untimely death.

This incident underscores the pressing need for stricter enforcement of traffic laws and heightened awareness among drivers to ensure road safety in Pune.
