The Pune Metro is set to expand its network with a series of ambitious projects under Phase II, aiming to improve public transportation for residents. With the success of Phase I, the new routes will extend the metro’s reach to key areas, promising better connectivity and sustainable commuting options.

Key Updates on Phase II

Awaiting Central Government Approval

  • Vanaz to Chandani Chowk: 1.2 km stretch with 2 stations.
  • Ramwadi to Wagholi/Vitthalwadi: 11.63 km covering 11 stations.
  • Khadakwasla to Swargate to Hadapsar to Kharadi: A massive 25.66 km route with 22 stations.
  • SNDT to Warje to Manikbagh: 6.12 km featuring 6 stations.

Awaiting PMC Clearance

  • Hadapsar to Loni Kalbhor: 11.35 km with 10 stations.
  • Hadapsar to Saswad: 5.57 km including 4 stations.

Future Expansion Plans

A detailed project report is being prepared for a potential Nigdi-Mukai Chowk-Wakad-Nashik Phata-Chakan route, focusing on further connecting the city and nearby industrial hubs.

Current Developments

The Swargate-Katraj line extension is in its final tendering stage, with a contractor expected to be appointed soon.

Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil praised the efficiency of the existing metro routes and reiterated the state government’s commitment to securing approvals for Phase II. These developments are expected to benefit lakhs of commuters, enhancing urban mobility while addressing congestion challenges in Pune.

With seven new proposed routes and a focus on seamless public transport, the Pune Metro continues to lead the charge in redefining urban commuting in the city.
