Pune: Shivajinagar-Hinjawadi Metro line on Schedule; to be launched in March 2025
Pune, November 27, 2024: The much-awaited Shivajinagar-Hinjawadi Metro project will be ready for operation by March 2025. This 23.2 km long metro line being built at a cost of Rs 8,313 crore is 74% complete so far. Its aim is to reduce the traffic problems of IT professionals and other daily commuters.
This metro line will connect major business and residential areas of Pune, Shivajinagar, Baner, Balewadi and Hinjawadi, which is expected to provide relief from the problem of traffic jams in these areas. Especially in fast-developing areas like Baner, Balewadi and Hinjawadi, where the number of IT professionals and local residents is constantly increasing, this project will ease the traffic.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of this project on 8 December 2018. Since then, residents and employees of these areas have been eagerly awaiting the launch of the metro. The project will not only improve daily traffic but also reduce traffic pressure on local roads while efficiently connecting major residential, commercial and industrial locations in the region.
Rinaj Pathan, Chief Engineer, Pune Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (PMRDA) told media persons, “The financial objectives of the project have already been achieved up to 63 per cent, and the remaining work is expected to be completed within the stipulated time frame. The metro line will be equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, ensuring that it meets international standards for safety, comfort, and efficiency. Once operational, the metro will significantly enhance connectivity between Shivajinagar, Baner, Balewadi, and Hinjawadi, helping to alleviate congestion on key arterial roads.”
