Pune, September 05, 2024: As Ganeshotsav 2024 is approaching, Pune traffic police have announced comprehensive changes to traffic, including announcement of parking zones, traffic diversions and a ban on entry of heavy vehicles inside the city.

These changes will remain in effect from September 5 to September 18, 2024, during which all heavy vehicles are banned from entering the city’s central areas to ensure smooth traffic flow.

Amol Zende, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Traffic Branch, Pune, has announced these traffic changes and requested strict adherence to the changes to ensure traffic flows smoothly and bottlenecks are avoided during the festival when large crowds of devotees are expected to come out for Ganapati idol purchases and celebrations.

Areas Under Heavy Vehicle Ban

  • Shastri Road: Senadat Chowk to Alka Cinema Chowk
  • Tilak Road: Jedhe Chowk to Alka Cinema Chowk
  • Kumthekar Road: Shanipar to Alka Cinema Chowk
  • Laxmi Road: Sant Kabir Chowk to Alka Cinema Chowk
  • Kelkar Road: Futka Buruj to Alka Cinema Chowk
  • Bajirao Road: Pooram Chowk to Gadgil Putla Chowk
  • Chhatrapati Shivaji Road: Gadgil Putla Chowk to Jedhe Chowk
  • Karve Road: Nalstop to Khandojibaba Chowk
  • Ferguson Road: Khandojibaba Chowk to Veer Chapekar Chowk
  • Sinhagad Road: Rajaram Bridge to Savarkar Chowk
  • Mudaliar Road and Ganesh Road: Powerhouse Chowk to Daruwala Bridge to Jijamata Chowk
  • Jungli Maharaj Road: S.G. Barve Chowk to Khandojibaba Chowk

This heavy vehicle ban is applicable 24 hours everyday from September 5 till Ganesh Visarjan gets over on September 18. Heavy vehicles delivering goods to the city are instructed to park their vehicles outside the city and transport the goods in smaller vehicles to avoid congestion.

Parking and Traffic Arrangements for Idol Purchases

To manage crowds and facilitate smooth movement when large number of devotees come out to purchase Ganesh idols, special traffic arrangements have been made for September 5 and September 7 between 6 AM to midnight:

  • No parking zones: Savarkar Putla Chowk to Saadhan Bhel Center on Sinhagad Road. Although traffic will be allowed to flow in both directions, parking is strictly prohibited.
  • Parking areas:
    • From Mitramandal Chowk to Patil Plaza
    • From Jamnalal Bajaj Statue to Pooram Chowk (left side)
    • From Nilayam Bridge to Sinhagad Road Junction

Traffic Diversions:

  • Shivaji Road: Gadgil Putla Chowk to Gotiram Bhaiya Chowk will be closed for traffic. Alternate routes will be provided through Santaji Ghorpade Path and Kumbharves Chowk.
  • PMT Bus Routes: Buses from Shivajinagar Stand to Swargate via Shivaji Road will be diverted through Jungli Maharaj Road and Tilak Road.

Additionally, fro mFadke Houd Chowk to Jijamata Chowk and Appa Balwant Chowk to Budhwar Chowk, traffic will be one way to ease vehicle movement.

The Pune Traffic Police requested citizens and drivers to cooperate with these changes to ensure the peaceful and enjoyable celebration of Ganeshotsav and smooth traffic flow.
