Tamhini Ghat Bus Accident Update: A devastating bus accident occurred near Waterfall Point in Tamhini Ghat on Friday morning, December 20, 2024. A private bus carrying wedding attendees overturned after the driver lost control at a sharp turn. The tragedy claimed the lives of five passengers, including three women and two men, and left 27 others injured.

The bus (registration number MH 14 GU 3405) was traveling from Lohegaon, Pune, to Birwadi in Mahad for a wedding ceremony. The accident happened between 9:30 and 9:50 AM when the driver struggled to navigate a dangerous bend on the Pune-Dighi highway, causing the vehicle to veer off the road and overturn.

Rescue Operations in Full Swing

Upon receiving reports of the incident, Mangaon Police Inspector Nivrutti Borade and his team swiftly reached the scene. Locals and rescue teams collaborated to extract passengers trapped in the bus. The injured were transported to Mangaon’s sub-district hospital for immediate medical attention. A POSCO ambulance was also dispatched to assist with on-site treatment.

The exact cause of the accident remains under investigation. Tamhini Ghat is notorious for its treacherous curves and deteriorating road conditions, especially during monsoons, making it a high-risk zone for travelers.
