Pune/Wakad, January 09, 2025: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) undertook a decisive demolition drive against unauthorized constructions and encroachments in the D Ward Office area on January 08, focusing on Datta Mandir Road in Wakad. The action aimed to clear the way for a planned 45-meter road widening project to improve infrastructure and ease traffic congestion in the rapidly growing city.

Despite property owners being served notices as early as August 2023, no compliance was observed. Public announcements regarding the demolition were made starting January 3rd, with a final warning issued on January 6th. On January 8th, PCMC commenced the operation, successfully removing approximately 70 tin sheds and demolishing around 62,000 square meters of encroaching structures.

The operation was executed under the supervision of PCMC Commissioner Shekhar Singh, Additional Commissioner Pradeep Jambhale Patil, and Deputy Commissioner Manoj Lonkar, who also oversees the Fire Brigade. The demolition involved the use of heavy machinery, including bulldozers, JCB machines, three pokelanes, one JCB, and two transport trucks.

This crackdown on illegal structures follows a similar anti-encroachment drive conducted between December 18-20, during which the civic body cleared 2,31,099 square feet of unauthorized constructions, including RCC structures, brickwork structures, and tin sheds from Kudalwadi, Chikhali, and Dehu-Alandi Road areas. These efforts were also aimed at clearing proposed DP (Development Plan) roads.

The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation continues to focus on improving city infrastructure and public safety by taking strict actions against unauthorized constructions across the region.
