Pune: Water discharge from Mulshi dam to be increased at 5 pm

Pune, August 25, 2024: Tata Power, the company that manages Mulshi dam towards the west of Pune, has announced increase in water discharge in Mula river.

Due to continuous heavy rain in the catchment area of Mulshi dam, there is a lot of water inflow into the Muslhi reservoir resulting in the dam getting filled up to over 96 percent capacity.

As a result, water discharge through the dam spillway into Mula river was necessitated. The dam authorities started discharging water at the rate of 5000 cusecs from 2 pm onwards today.

At 4 pm the discharge was further increased to 8730 cusecs and now in the latest update the Tata Power authorities have communicated that the water discharge will be increased to 10,500 cusecs from 5 pm onwards.

Mulshi dam water discharge

The water discharge from Mulshi dam will cause a rise in the water level of Mula river which flows through Maan, Hinjawadi, Wakad and PCMC areas.

The authorities are advising everyone living near the banks of Mula river to exercise caution and move any movable property, animals and equipment from the river bed.

Citizens living in low lying areas near the banks of Mula should remain alert and not venture too close to the banks of river due to strong water currents.

In the meantime, water discharge from Khadakwasla dam has been reduced from 35310 cusecs to 26345 cusecs since 2 pm, announced Sub Divisional Engineer, Mutha Canal Embankment Sub Division, Pune.
