Work on the redevelopment of Pune’s city airport existing terminal building is set to begin in June, with a Rs. 25 crore budget allocated for the project. Airport officials said integration of the existing infrastructure with the new terminal has already been done, with additional equipment being installed as the project progresses.

The new terminal is expected to become operational by June 2024 and the existing building’s redevelopment is expected to be completed by March of next year, with the goal of addressing long-standing complaints about chaos and inadequate facilities at the current terminal. Once completed, the new departure area will have 16 check-in counters and five X-ray baggage scanning machines, improving operational efficiency and passenger experience.

The official added, “The departure area of the existing building will be dismantled and so will the existing four baggage conveyor belts.”

The arrival area will be converted into another departure section, and the first floor will become a new security hold area.

However, pending approvals for floor plans and additional CISF deployment, along with awaited manpower, may impact the timeline. Nevertheless, officials aim to shift operations to the new building during construction, expecting completion within eight to nine months.
